Answer: Both. Turns the unit on and off and holds the button up or down to adjust the height of the flame. -

Answer: The logs should not give off an odor. If the log set has not been used in awhile, there may be an odd smell at start up, which is the dust burning off. Opening a window for the first ten minutes is recommended. It is important to assemble the logs correctly to avoid producing carbon monoxide, which can cause a smell. Carbon monoxide detectors should be installed and a professional should handle installation and maintenance. -
