Question:
Using a 20A DC power supply to turn on the heaters, but at 12V the current is always ~10A and the temp does not go beyond 190C. Any suggestions?
Answer: 10 amps sounds low for a 200 watt heater, the wattage is stamped on the side of the barrel, double check the rating.... 10 amps x 12 volts is 120 watts. -

The DERNORD Immersion Cartridge Heater is a 12V 100W heating element replacement that is designed to heat up quickly. The product has received mixed reviews from customers regarding its performance. One customer noted that the wattage of the heater depends on the temperature, with near 200W at 12V around 100C. However, another customer mentioned that the resistance of the heater measured out to be only about 130W max at 12V. The product has a 1/2" male NPT thread and requires a DC input of 12 volts. It appears to be just as described and was reported to heat up very fast during a quick test. One issue mentioned by customers is that the hook-up wires that come with the heater are 18ga with fiberglass insulation, which is thin for the current drawn. This results in the wires getting very hot, and some customers recommend replacing them with heavier gauge wires or ensuring free-air ventilation. Overall, the DERNORD Immersion Cartridge Heater seems to have mixed performance and reception.
